From Goa down through coastal Karnataka: Mangalore's tiled roofs going dark in the monsoon, and the fish baskets carried up from the water at Tonse and Malpe. The western shore as our family remembers it, not as it is photographed.
In the monsoon the whole house smelled of rain, woodsmoke, and the morning's fish.
